The Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat on Thursday announced shifting Centre for Rural Development Communication (CRDC) from its present premises to the Department of Media Studies (DMS) building and providing all the basic facilities to the department of media & communication studies.
He made this announcement while paying a surprise visit to the Department of Media & Communication Studies, University of Sindh on Thursday. He went in the class rooms and observed ongoing lectures and discipline of the students attending their classes.
Talking to the chairman of the department Dr Badar Soomro, the Vice Chancellor Dr Burfat said that the department was churning out professionally sound, qualified and competent journalists who would bridge gap between the rulers and the ruled. He said he was glad to have visited the department.
"I announce shifting of Centre for Rural Development Communication (CRDC) from its present premises at the bungalow to the department of Media Studies building," he said and added that the shifting of premises would be productive and fecund. He also announced providing the department with digital media library and independent television studio, funding for colour printing of monthly magazine 'Shaoor', provision of 50 computers, 55 to 60 inch LED television set, 2 overhead water tanks and special funding for other minor fixtures at the department.
He issued on-the-spot orders for construction of compound wall for the department apart from making available special funds to enrich seminar library and installation of two air conditioning units there. During Dr Burfat's visit to the print and media laboratories, Dr Soomro presented to him the copies of two publications of the department ie weekly 'Roshni' newspaper and Monthly 'Shaoor' magazine which were highly appreciated by the Vice-Chancellor.
The vice chancellor also assured the department chairman of arranging and dispatching team to assess the possibility of ISO certification of the department. Dr Soomro updated the Vice-Chancellor on his correspondence with Print and Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for acquisition of license, which he believed would be granted shortly.
