Around 11,000 vehicles have so far been registered under "Dealer Vehicle Registration System" (DVRS) in five districts of Punjab. The DVRS is a joint project of the provincial Excise and Taxation department and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) initiated for the elimination of bogus and non-registered vehicles in the province of Punjab. These vehicles have been registered through 23 online-registered dealers in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and Faisalabad districts.
It may be noted that the Dealer Vehicle Registration System was introduced for the elimination of bogus and non-registered vehicles in the Punjab province in November 2016 by the Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The sources said the new system is helping reduction in late registration of vehicles and evasion of government tax on vehicles while facilitating the citizens in prompt registration of their vehicles before it leaves from the dealer's showroom. All types of vehicles including motorbikes are being registered through this automated system. For this prompt technology base service, the buyers of new cars pay Rs 2000 and for motorbike Rs 500 extra to the dealer. The average new registration under this system in five districts of Punjab is noticed above 100 vehicles per day, which is expected to increase with the expansion of it in other districts of the Punjab province, the sources added. The sources said that DVRS was a part of that chain that had been introduced for ensuring the prompt service delivery, transparency, good governance and improving the departmental performance for the facility of the public. As many as 22 dealers have been licensed to provide dealer vehicle registration system facility to citizens in Punjab.
