Director Education Department Fata Secretariat, Hashim Khan Afridi on Monday said that Rationalisation policy implemented earlier in tribal areas has been revised and a one-year grace period would be given to landowners and teachers for enrolling out of schools children in schools.
Director Education Fata, Hashim Khan Afridi in his exclusive interview revealed that the directorate has formally decided to revise the Rationalization policy and also to restore the education institutions earlier closed down. While keeping in view the mass evacuation from tribal regions, the decision was withdrawn so that to enroll the out of schools children to schools, he remarked.
As per the government criteria, the male students in a primary school should not be less than 80 and below 70 in girls school, Afridi said and adding the teachers in those schools would strive their best to run education drive for brining children back to schools.
To a question, he replied that a committee under the chair of political agent of relevant agency has been formed that would monitor the schools on quarterly basis. An official of Education Directorate Fata and Agency Education office would also be part of committee, he added.
It is worth mentioning here that Education Directorate Fata had earlier decided in 2015 to implement Rationalisation policy under which around 400 educational institutions across the Fata were reported to be closed down for not having maximum numbers of students.
The policy was introduced by the then governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab.
It was decided that 105 schools in Mohmand Agency, 86 Orakzai, 58 in Kurram, 28 Khyber, 13 in Bajaur Agency and 207 schools in frontier regions to be shut down as part of Rationalisation policy. After the implementation of Rationalisation policy, the Education Directorate Fata faced severe reaction from tribesmen and government schools teachers for its decision to close down education institutions.
The schools having less than 40 children in primary and less than 25 in medal school would be closed as part of Rationalisation policy.
