The sub-committee of Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms assured political parties on Wednesday that final draft of constitutional amendments will be submitted with the main committee by January 20. The committee met in the chair of its Convenor Federal Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid and examined the constitutional amendments proposed by the committee members.
The convenor asked the members to share the draft pertaining to constitutional amendments with political parties in order to get their opinions. In another case, the sub-committee decided to forward the use of biometric machines in election and right to vote of overseas Pakistanis to the main committee for final decision.
In December 2016, Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms Ishaq Dar told the media that the committee had held meetings on voting right of overseas Pakistanis, biometrics verification of votes and voting through electronic voting machines but it failed to reach consensus. The committee had empowered the ECP to use these technologies on experimental basis in different elections.
