A bar member has challenged the Punjab Transparency & Right to Information Act 2013 before the Lahore High Court (LHC) Advocate Azhar Siddique stated that the impugned "Act" is itself a hurdle in the way of access to information. The lawyer pleaded that the Punjab Information Commission since its inception in 2013 had not taken a single punitive action against any government authority for concealing facts and information as thousands of complaints were pending before it.
Advocate Siddique pointed out that the commission has not provided him record of the Orange Line Metro Train project despite a lapse of eight months. He asked the court to declare the impugned Act unconstitutional and direct the government to make an effective legislation for provision of the information. He also requested the court to order the government to provide him complete record of the train project.
