Institute of Art & Design, University of Sindh, Jamshoro organized aptitude test for aspirants of admission to its 4 departments ie Fine Arts, Communication Design, Textile Design and Art History. The number of allocated seats in each of these departments respectively was 50, 50, 70 and 30, coming up to a total of 200. Approximately, 2431 candidates turned up for this test.
The test comprised 3 parts ie Drawing, Written Examinations and Viva-voce. Professor Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, Vice-Chancellor, University of Sindh visited the test centre. In his remarks on this occasion, he observed that art education was regarded as expensive, unusual, off-the beaten-track; yet an oversized number of aspirants to seek admission were both astonishing as well as encouraging. He maintained that previously the common perception was that there was less availability of jobs in the field of arts in developing countries like Pakistan.
However, there has been a turn-around in this perception in the wake of rapid technological development and ever-increasing expansion of media industry in the country and the world. Dr Kalhoro termed it a good omen to note growing women participation in almost all walks of life including arts.
