Integrated Education Learning Program Schools Owners Association (IELPSOA) has urged the Sindh government to take a notice of alleged corruption of millions rupees in Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) and closure of 200 schools in the province.
A leader of the association, Wajid Laghari made this demand while speaking a press conference at Hyderabad Press Club on Sunday.
He said that the provincial government should hold an inquiry into alleged corruption as the future of children of rural areas could be saved.
During the current year, about 900 schools have been closed by issuing one letter which would deprive about 120,000 children of their fundamental right of education, he said.
The SEF was set up in 1992 through a bill passed in the Sindh Assembly and its aim was to provide books, uniforms and other materials to children living in the remote areas of the province at free of cost, he said.
In initial stage, about 100 schools were opened, he said, adding that Late Professor Anita Ghulam Ali focused more on the education of girls in the remote areas and under IELP, about 1500 schools were opened where about 450,000 were enrolled.
A subsidy of Rs300 was fixed per a child and provided to the organisation that contacted with the SEF to run the schools in remote areas and it would go well till 2012, he added.
When Anit Ghulam Ali died, the performance of the SEF started to decline because of alleged corruption, he said.
Besides, appointments were made on huge packages of about Rs 500, 000 per month which forced the transfer of funds earmarked for providing education and required material for children living in the remotes areas, he said.
Besides, about 3500 teachers lost their jobs due to closing of said schools, Laghari said.
