QUETTA: Caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan on Thursday chaired a high level meeting here at Secretariat Office to ensure upcoming general election were held in a transparent manner.
Shortage of water in Gwadar was also discussed in details and many important decisions were made in the meeting.
Chief Secretary Balochistan Dr. Akhtar Nazeer gave a briefing on various issues including election arrangements, registered voters, polling stations, DRO, ROR and AR deployment and other election programs.
He said that 29,000 election staff, including polling officers and assistant polling officers had completed training and 4558 senior presiding officers would be given training soon.
Secretary Interior Ghulam Baloch briefed the cabinet on different issues including restoration of polling stations, installation of CCTV cameras, electoral staff, transport and security for personnel of election at the sensitive polling stations.
The cabinet expressed satisfaction in that regard and noted all the political parties were participating in the general election.
All resources will be utilized to conduct peaceful election, and the security of candidates participating in general election and polling staff would be ensured. The cabinet directed to a formulate strategy for setting up CCTV cameras at polling stations.
The cabinet expressed satisfaction over the peace situation in Balochistan, saying that practical measures were being taken to increase the number of investigation officers and establishment of the Forensic laboratory in the province as soon as possible.
The cabinet directed all possible steps would be taken to provide security to those who had rejoined national stream, so that they could play their due role in the development of the province and the country.
The cabinet decided that steps would be taken to ensure the completion of Quetta Safe City project.
The caretaker cabinet reviewed the issue of drinking water related to Quetta and Gwadar and decided that strict action would be taken against tanker mafia and illegal tube wells, besides the government tube wells would be restored for addressing water shortage in Quetta.
An awareness campaign would be started to highlight importance of sanitation and people should play their vital role for keeping the city clean.
The meeting decided that National Highways Authority would be asked to take measures for preventing road accidents on different highways including Quetta-Karachi and Quetta-Chaman sections.
Caretaker Chief Minister said conducting transparent elections was the responsibility of interim government. He directed that no weakness or lack of responsibility would be tolerated at any level in holding elections peacefully.
The chief minister ordered that all possible measures should be taken to remove concerns of the candidates. He also issued directives to address water shortage in Quetta and Gwadar on top priority.
He said the government tube wells would be restored soon to remove water scarcity in Quetta and awareness campaign would be initiated for use of water and cleaning of cities.
Alauddin Marri said time was very limited, the government would do more public work, so that people could get relief.
