ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday started accepting nomination papers throughout the country from the contesting candidates for the upcoming general elections, 2018.
According to ECP, Returning Officers (ROs) have begun issuing the nomination papers while the Commission has declared June 8 as the last date for submission of nomination papers.
The decision of accepting nomination papers of ECP comes after Supreme Court suspended Lahore High Court’s (LHC) verdict of rejecting the nomination papers which was drafted by the parliamentary committee, for violating Article 62, 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
The nomination papers to be filed in accordance with Election Act 2017 will be scrutinized by Returning Officers by June 14, while the last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the Returning Officer rejecting or accepting the nomination papers will be June 19.
The last date for deciding of appeals by the Appellate Tribunal will be June 26. The date of publication of revised list of candidates will be June 27 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature and publication of revised list of candidates will be June 28. The date of publication of list of contesting candidates will be June 29.
The security fee for National Assembly will be Rs 30,000 while the security fee for provincial assemblies will be Rs 20,000. The security fee will be held if any candidate gets less than one-fourth of votes.
