LAYYAH: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday criticized the PTI for utilizing demand regarding South Punjab as separate province just to gain political mileage ahead of elections.

Addressing a public meeting here, Bilawal said it was PPP that took up the matter seriously in Parliament and would help create South Punjab as separate province if voted to power.

Bilawal thanked the people of the Southern Punjab city for voting the PPP in past.

"Layyah has always voted for PPP and only PPP can fulfill the longstanding demand of the people of South Punjab," he said.

Criticising the rival parties, the PPP chairman said opponents would get nothing out of Layyah if they continued to use the matter of a separate province for personal gains.

He said the PTI was raising the issue just to get votes, adding the PTI leader was known for U-turns.

Bilawal said the PPP brought gas to Layyah and always worked for the people's welfare.

He expressed commitment to bring more education and health facilities to Layyah and the whole South Punjab.

He said, the PPP had built hospitals in Sindh and invested Rs 11 billion in Thar on water projects to overpower water shortage.

He promised to initiate such projects in Layyah and other parts of South Punjab.

He said the PPP would establish a Barani university in Thal and all facilities would be extended to the people at their door step. He said that people of Layyah were politically aware and would support PPP in next general election.

Former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood also spoke on the occasion.
