PESHAWAR: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Javed Iqbal Thursday warned legal action against officials of concerned departments including secretaries in cooperative housing societies’ scams along with owners. Addressing a cheque distribution ceremony here at NAB –KP regional office, he said that people like “Double Shah” were present in every province and people have be cautious and confirm about legal status of any society before investment.

He advised government officers to perform their duties with honesty and protect people from being deceived. Javed Iqbal said that it was duty of NAB to ask from individuals responsible for spending nation’s money that how and where was the money spent, adding that one should not be annoyed over constitutional responsibility of the Bureau. He said that bureaucrats were backbone of the state and respectable to NAB like politicians and other people of the society.

The chairman NAB said that for real change in the country every government should have to pay attention to good governance to eliminate corruption and encourage self accountability.

He said that elimination of corruption was not sole responsibility of NAB rather all government officials and public was responsible for that.

He advised government officers to be loyal with state rather with governments. Chairman NAB said that the country owes $84 billion foreign loans but the money is not spent for public welfare and if NAB questions someone in this regard it is the constitution obligation of the bureau.

Refuting the impression of victimization by NAB, he said that NAB was not victimizing anyone. It was providing an opportunity to every individual to make himself clear before the nation, adding that after taking charge of chairman NAB he first started accountability from NAB headquarters.

He said that he had specified Thursday as public hearing day and so far he had received 10,000 applications which were being examined on merit. Earlier, he distributed cheques among affectees of an illegal society and the amount recovered by NAB from corrupt elements.
