SC transfers contempt of court proceedings against Abidi to another bench

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Thursday transferred contempt of court proceedings against former Senator Faisal Raza Abidi over ‘anti-judiciary’ remarks to another bench.
A three-member bench, chaired by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, transferred the case to another bench on the request of Faisal Raza Abidi.
However, the court rejected his plea to shift the matter to the Supreme Court Karachi registry.
During course of proceedings, on CJ's directions, video clip of Abidi's speech was played in the courtroom.
The Chief Justice also took note of Mr. Abidi's posture and etiquettes in a court room.
Meanwhile, the bench rejected unconditional apology of a private TV channel’s owner and issued show cause notice to the owner, asking him that why the contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for airing contemptuous programme.
On previous hearing the apex court ordered police to produce Faisal Raza Abidi before the court for giving derogatory remarks against the country’s top judge in a TV programme.
