Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday inaugurated the mega project of Metro Bus Service in Lahore, which has been completed in a record period of 11 months. A high-level delegation of Turkey led by its Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag participated in the inaugural ceremony.
The project opening was also attended by diplomats of various countries and different political leaders including PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif along with senior officials of his party travelled in the Metro Bus and inspected the route from Nishtar Town to Shahdara.
A large number of PML-N workers thronged the MBS route welcoming their party leadership. The jubilant workers also danced to the tune of drums beat. The project has been built at a cost of Rs30 billion in a record period of 11 months. The MBS will cover 27-kilometer long journey from Gajjumata to Shahdara in 55 minutes, whereas earlier it was taking two-hours to cover the same distance.
People can travel free of cost through the service during the first four weeks.
The project entails a modern- e-ticketing system including special reserved seats for women and the disabled.
Punjab Metro Bus Authority (PMBA) has been established to run the administrative matters of metro bus service, while an agreement has been signed with Lahore Waste Management Company to ensure modern sanitation system on its routes.
Punjab government has completed the mega development with its own resources and cooperation of Turkey. Shahbaz Sharif has shown his intention to introduce similar projects in entire country after coming into power again. He claimed that that PPP and its allies could have not completed this unique venture by dooms day even after spending hefty sum of Rs 200 billion.
