Altaf asks MQM legislators to table motions for Seraiki province

Published Updated

MULTAN: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Friday, announced support for Seraiki province and instructed MQM legislators to table motions in the National Assembly and Senate for giving South Punjab the status of a new province.

Altaf Hussain made this announcement while telephonically addressing from London at MQM's 'Difa-e-Pakistan Convention' held here on Friday.

The MQM chief also welcomed the statement of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani in which the Army Chief stated that democracy was not under threat.

Altaf Hussain thanked the army chief on issuing this statement.

He said that creation of new provinces was the need of hour to strengthen the country.

Countless people from across South Punjab attended the convention at the district sports ground.

Altaf Hussain said that MQM was the only party that made the demand for Seraiki province as a part of their manifesto. People of South Punjab are demanding a separate province and there is nothing wrong in it.

He said that it was a historical fact that Multan was a province and Bahawalpur was a state.

He said that Seraiki people should avoid paying attention to conspiracies and instead sit together and decide unanimously what they desire ,Whether, they want one province or more, and added that their decision would be MQM's decision.

He said that MQM has decided to help the people of South Punjab to enable them to have access to their rights and declared that 'Waderas' or 'Jageerdars' would no more be allowed to usurp their rights.

He said that those who wanted to keep the people of South Punjab deprived of all facilities have started to hatch negative propaganda against their party.

He said that MQM was the torch bearer of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinah's vision. We do not just talk. We have sent poor people, farmers at that to the parliament as elected representatives, Altaf added.

He demanded that five more medical colleges and an agriculture university be set up in South Punjab. He also demanded a textile zone in Vehari.

MQM leaders Farooq Sattar, Iftikhar Akbar Randhawa, Sarfraz Nawaz, Shamshad Jafri, Rai Khalid Mehmood, Zulqarnain Bhutta addressed the gathering. Other MQM leaders Mustafa Kamal, Haidar Abbas Rizvi, Faisal Sabzwari, Babar Ghauri were also present on the occasion.
