ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Interior has constituted a committee to examine draft bill regarding misuse of emails, SMS, MMS in anti-state activities.
As per notification issued here on Thursday, the committee headed by Secretary Interior, would meet next week and later brief the Minister regarding the proposed legislation.
Other members of the Committee are Secretary of Information Technology, Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Additional Secretary Law and Joint Secretary (Law), Ministry of Interior.
Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik had taken notice of misuse of electronic equipments i.e. internet, email, (Short Messaging Service) SMS/ (Multi Media Service) MMS and directed to take remedial measures to curb the menace of such illegal activities with iron hands.
It has been detected that anti-state messages have been emanated from various email addresses and telephones and serious threats have been given to the journalists, business community and families causing commotion and harassment.
It was observed that the criminals are still using unauthorized mobile SIMs for their criminal activities and terrorists' acts, bank robbery, target killings and other heinous crimes.
The minister had directed Chairman PTA to review the whole system and ensure that all those illegal SIMs which are being used on stolen identity shall be blocked.
He also Chairman PTA and Secretary IT to hold a meeting with service providers and convey the concerns of the government and ensure that their services are not misused by anti-slate and anti-social elements, putting the security of the country in danger.
