Preparing plan to undertake uplift works: Shaikh suggests forming joint Kati, Kite committee

Commissioner Karachi, Roshan Ali Shaikh, has suggested that a committee comprising representatives of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati) and Korangi Industrial and Trading Estate (Kite) Ltd should be formed o prepare a plan to undertake development works in Korangi industrial area.
Speaking at a meeting of Kati here on Thursday, he further said that the stakeholders should prepare a master plan of the area and submit the same to him for further action.
Shaikh ordered arrest of owners of illegal hydrants operating in Korangi industrial area. He also ordered immediate closure of all such hydrants. The commissioner further instructed Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) not to grant permission for opening hydrants in the area without his prior approval.
He asked Assistant Commissioner Korangi industrial area to hold meeting with the officials of National and Attock refineries for removal all their encroachments and heavy vehicles from the area especially from 5000 Road leading to Tannery Zone. If the instructions were not complied with, the concerned officials of Attock refinery should be arrested, he directed.
Mian Zahid Hussain requested the Commissioner Karachi to allow Kati to impose and collect levy for various services to be provided in the area. He also urged that Kati be authorised to charge parking fee in Korangi industrial area so that the proceeds could be utilised for maintenance and repairs of the roads.
Shaikh said that Kati and Kite should initiate projects in the areas for self-generation of revenue. He advised Kati to appoint a consultant for such projects. He told the meeting that a third landfill site for disposal of solid waste has already been demarcated.
When PTA Chief Khurshid Ahmed requested the Commissioner for implementation on the decisions made in the meeting with Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan including removal of solid waste, operation against encroachments, repairs and construction of road network and water supply to the Tannery Zone, etc he said that swift action was being taken in this regard.
