Divisional administration of Hazara Division has decided to make recommendations through provincial government for the shifting of the terrorists and hardcore criminal prisoners of other provinces to their own provinces and directed the authorities of Central Jail Haripur and other district prisons for informing district police on dangerous prisoners on monthly basis.
These measures were taken in meeting held in Commissioner House, Abbottabad with Commissioner Hazara, Mohammad Khalid Khan Umerzai and Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Hazara, Dr Naeem Khan in the chair. The meeting was attended by District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) of all districts of Hazara Division, District Police Officers (DPOs), Superintendents of Jail and other officers concerned.
The meeting in light of the incident of Bannu Jail reviewed in detail threats to the prisons and took crucial and immediate measures for guaranteeing the security of the prisons in the division. The meeting also decided that in case of the shifting of such hardcore terrorists and criminals to any prison, the Superintendent of the jail concerned should be brought it in the notice of the district police officer of the district concerned.
With the assistance of Nadra a record of the photos of and finger prints of all prisoners will be maintained while latest alarm system and walk-through-in gates will also be installed in prisons. For the arresting the use of mobile phone, besides, installation of jammers the personnel of jail security co-operating with prisoners in this regard will face stern action. Similarly, the prisons' staff will be provided latest automatic weapons and training to meet both internal and external threats to the prisoners. For filling the deficiency in training and staff the administration will obtain the services of the experts and former employees of the department.
The activities of high-profile prisoners will be monitored and measures for the provision of foolproof security the establishment of reserve police force, provision of latest weapons, training of staff, prison administration and co-ordination amongst jail, district administration and police will be guaranteed in any circumstances.
The meeting while terming Earthquake Rehabilitation Authority (ERA) responsible for the reconstruction of earthquake affected Central Jail Abbottabad expressed deep concern and called for presenting all details relating to present security situation in prisons and required strengthen of force to the commissioner Hazara with immediate effect to send it to provincial government on immediate and priority basis.
Addressing the meeting, the Commissioner Hazara directed the prisons' officers for openly tell about their requirements for provision of protection to prisoners and staff and take strict measures for averting security threats created due to the collaboration between prisoners and jail officials. He urged the jail officials for classification of dangerous prisoners involved in terrorism and other criminal detainees to maintain strict surveillance of them. He also directed measures for shifting such dangerous prisoners to other secured prisons.
