Around 30,000 people are associated with glass bangle industry and the role of women workers in this sector can not be ignored. Vice president of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Truab Ali Khoja said this while addressing a one-Day Training Programme organised by Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) Hyderabad and Pak Social Welfare Society (PSWS) in co-ordination with the HCCI.
He said that unfortunately little work had been done for women entrepreneurs of the bangle industry, however he appreciate the role of the SMEDA and PSWS for encouraging women entrepreneurs working in this sector. Khoja said that they encouraged women entrepreneurs to become member of HCCI so that they might have platform for the exposure of their work and participation in business development activities.
Earlier, the Regional Businessman co-ordinator SMEDA, Hyderabad, Ikhtiar Ahemd Khoso said that SMEDA was playing a crucial role for the promotion and development of SME sector in Pakistan.
Keeping in view the importance of bangle industry in Hyderabad, SMEDA was implementing a PSDP project for diversification of glass products in accordance with market demands, he added.
He said that Glass Products Design and Manufacturing Centre (GPDMC) was running a number of training courses in co-ordination with Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh.
He further said that women entrepreneurs of the glass industry were key stakeholders. If they were trained in accordance with market needs it could further enhance their revenues and more market share for Hyderabad, he observed.
Muhammad Iqbal Arain and chief executive PSWS Abdul Ghafoor Sherani also spoke on the occasion.
