Rain-hit people of Badin: NGOs, others show concern over rehabilitation work

Flood affected people of Badin district, representatives of local non-government organisations (NGOs), journalists, growers have shown grave concern over relief rehabilitation work being launched by the government after rain devastation. They also demanded from government that all budget expenditures, which were spent on relief emergency work and rain affected rehabilitation, should be shared with public and civil society representatives of Badin district.
They demanded this in a public hearing session of rain-hit people organised by Participatory Development Initiatives (PDI) and People's Accountability Commission on floods held at a local hotel here on Tuesday.
Assistant commissioner of Badin, Hassan Haroon Hoth, Wajid Shams Memon District Disaster Reduction Management Coordinator (DDRMC) Badin, Dr Akash Ansari BIRDS NGO, Professor Abdullah Mallah, Syed Zafar Ali Shah growers leader, Mustafa Leghari, a prominent local journalist, Abdul Razaq Khati, Abbbas Kiser, Rafiq Channa from PDI and rain affected communities people and representatives of local non-government organisations spoke on the occasion.
Participants of Public Hearing Session meeting adopted several resolutions in which they had shown grave concern over relief work being launched by government after rain devastation and said that despite passage of seven months to rain devastation government had not completed early relief emergency work nor meet needs of rain affected people in mostly rain affected UCS of Badin district and still 30 percent rain water standing on UCS. The government has no plan to drain out water from those areas and breaches, which were occurred in canals, watercourses and in drainages not maintained by local administration.
They demanded from government that taking confidence to marooned rain-hit communities including civil society representatives , local administration should start quality work on left Bank Outfall Drain ( LBOD ) breached and complete breaches work before the onset monsoon season .-PR
