The Attock Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) on Tuesday said that decisions taken in the second National Energy Conference were good but difficult to implement. Energy Conference was a positive development but some of the decisions would be difficult to implement which called for finding alternate steps, it said.
Speaking to business community, ACCI President Tariq Mehmood said that Chief Minister Sindh had already expressed his reservations on some major decisions while another party representing urban areas of Sindh had opposed proposed step in the in camera session. Traders would never accept decision to close markets at 8pm as business activities gained momentum after sun sinking below the horizon, he added.
Tariq Mehmood, who is also Chairman FPCCI Standing Committee on Health and Director Pak-UK Business Council, FPCCI, said that some decisions were against the agreements signed by the federal government with power utilities while some might be in the violation of the constitutions.
He opined that government would never take steps that pleased Punjab but irked coalition partners in Khyber Paktunkhwa and Karachi. "Moreover, rural Sindh, the power base of the PPP-led coalition could not be irritated under any set of circumstances," he added.
It seems that the conference would not be able to offer anything to Punjab except promises and the outcome of the conference will not be very different from the earlier one which achieved nothing. In that situation, the formula presented by PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain could be considered seriously to minimise load shedding to sooth masses and business community, he said.
