The spate of target killings that claimed some 80 lives so far during last 12 days remained unabated in the city on Monday as two more political workers were gunned down in separate incidents. According to police and rescue sources, an activist of Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) was shot dead while other injured in Abul Hassan Isphani Road in the jurisdiction of Mobina Town police station.
The incident took place at Abul Hassan Isphani Road where two armed riders sprayed a cab (PL-2071) with bullets. Resultantly two men namely Younus Pathan, 28 son of Iqbal Khan and Zait Khan, 25, son of Fazal sustained fatal bullet wounds. The victims were shifted to nearby private hospital where Younus succumbed to his injures during treatment.
SHO Idrees Bangash said the victim was the resident of Metrovil-I and a father of three, adding that condition of victim Zait was declared stable. He said the deceased was an active worker of PPP PS-126 district Malir and at the time of incident; he was on the way to home after attending the Soyem of PSF worker Syed Hassan who was killed in Mobina Town two days ago.
Later police handed over his body to the heirs. Victim hailed from Peshawar and was associated with transport business. Following the said killing, tension engulfed in Scout Colony, Metrovil and other surrounding areas where all commercial and social activities were suspended due to uncertain condition. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Yet another PPP activist was gunned down in Baldia Town in the limits of Saeedabad police station. The incident took place at BK English Grammar School situated in Baldia sector 9 A-1 Saeedabad where a 35-year-old Syed Mukhtiar Shah, son of Syed Shah Mohammad Ghaus, was targeted by three unknown armed men. Resultantly he received six bullets on his upper and lower torsos and died on spot. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico legal formalities. Police said the victim, who was earlier working for Sunni Tehreek, was now activist of PPP and added that reason of his murder was yet to be ascertained. The deceased hailed from Abbotabad. No case was registered till filing of this report.
