A senior official of the Pakistan Standard Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) was burnt alive at his residence in Gulistan Jauhar police remits on Monday. Police officials said that the man was burnt after some attackers hurled a combustible substance upon him in Gulistan Jauhar, Block 16.
The PSQCA official did not survive despite having been rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in a critical condition. Dr Jagdesh performed a detailed post-mortem examination and sent samples to forensic lab for further examination, police said.
IO Sultan said the victim, father of three, hailed from Shadadpur and added that the police had earlier suggested that he had been burnt alive because of a 'short-circuit fire'. He said that the PSQCA official's wife later gave statement that two unknown men had barged into their residence on Monday evening, threw a chemical on her husband and then set him afire. Following her statement, samples of the chemical and the post-mortem report were sent to forensic lab for examination. Meanwhile, SP Salam Sheikh claimed that the people involved in the incident would soon be arrested.
