SPARC holds series of seminars on child rights, protection

Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC) in collaboration with Institute of Social work, Sociology, and Gender Studies, University of Peshawar (UoP) organised a certificate distribution ceremony for the students of Institute of Social work, Sociology and Gender Studies for attending a series of seminars on Child Rights and Child Protection.
The purpose of the seminars was to promote interest and activism among students for the promotion and protection of child rights. This has also been a first step towards improving the quality and performance of the students and in strengthening civil society. For this purpose, SPARC would organise more seminars, consultations and orientation workshops with an aim to create awareness among those who are likely to be the part of developmental sector in future and intend to address the child rights and child protection issues.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief guest Farah Hamid- Secretary Higher Education said that the students of the institutes are privileged to have such opportunity and indeed the student of the institute can play a vital role in protecting the rights of the child to build the future of our nation. She said that the higher education appreciates and encourage such initiatives by the institute and would also like the other departments and universities to bond ties between civil society organisations like SPARC to promote human rights in general and child rights in particular.
Acting Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar, Professor Dr Qibla Ayaz said that the Faculty of the University is striving hard to broaden the vision of the students by organising such types of events to facilitate and encourage students to conduct research on social issues like Child Labour, Violence against children Street Children etc.
Johar Ali, Director Institute of Social work, Sociology, and Gender studies thanked SPARC for imparting the orientation session on Child Rights and Child Protection and wished to continue such type of partnership with SPARC in future.
He said that they are also on way to collaborate with other institutions and civil society organisation to establish such types of ties for the development of the students to make them more beneficial human being to the society. He asked the students to participate more actively in the activities to be organised in days to come which would be proven a guiding light entering into their professional career.
At the occasion, Jahanzeb Khan, Regional Manager SPARC that they would also provide informative material for helping out students in conducting research on child rights and child protection issues. SPARC would also provide 3 months internship to the outstanding selected students.
