The 7th LUMHS international symposium under the theme of 'Innovation through Evolution in Medical Science' was held at the university campus from 30th to 31st March, 2012.
In the light of papers presented in the symposium, the scientific committee proposed nine recommendations to the government for future implementation which included: (1) promotion of research in all universities by enhancing the budget allocations and establishing separate research professional units in each university to meet the future challenges; (2) paying more stress upon prevention rather than curative side, specially of Hepatitis C & B; (3) health education may be imparted at school level to prevent population from communicable diseases; (4) ensuring education for prevention of non-communicable diseases, Diabetes, HTN, IHD; (5) taking effective measures to make Pakistan a polio-free country; (6) strategy to minimise the rate of maternal and child mortality; (7) managing effective teams to deal with the mass causalities and disasters; (8) managing safe drinking water and sanitation in the slum and rural areas and (9) imparting training women to decrease mortality of rural women and child.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Chairman Organising Committee Dr Aziz Leghari said that 250 scientific papers along with six lectures and 18 poster presentations were made during the two-day symposium.
