The Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) has expressed deep concern over targeted killings in Karachi. PIAF Chairman Sohail Lashari in a statement on Saturday urged government to take immediate measures to stop killings. The situation in Karachi was a cause of great depression among the businessmen, he said.
He said that people were feeling insecurity as dozens of innocent people were being killed every day. He said that terrorism has forced the businessmen of Karachi to close down their businesses. He said that national economy was facing loss of billions of rupees almost daily.
He said that despite heavy loss of human lives, the government had not evolved a comprehensive plan to stop targeted killings. The political parties were busy in blame game while terrorists were killing innocent people in broad daylight. The PIAF chief said that Karachi was the hub of industrial and economical activities and "Save Karachi" campaign was need of the hour. He said that recent floods had written new stories of destruction as thousands of small and medium villages and towns were erased.
He said that the industrial sector was already facing massive input cost, high markup, energy crisis and incompatible policies of government while Karachi circumstances further aggravating the situation. He said that targeted killings in Karachi had halted the economic activities across the country. He said that no foreign investor or buyer was ready to enter the country, particularly in Karachi.
Lashari urged the government and leaders of political parties to immediately end their differences and make all-out efforts to bring peace to Karachi. There should not be two opinions about the interests of the country, he said, adding that the government should evolve an effective security plan and ensure its implementation to restore industrial and economic activities, he added.
