An official of Malir Development Authority (MDA), was stabbed to death allegedly by his inmate, here at the Central Jail on early Monday. According to police sources, two prisoners namely Bisharat Hussain and Mohammad Ahmed engaged in a scuffle over some issue that left the former killed. The victim was Deputy Director of MDA.
Meanwhile, according to sources, the jail administration has suspended three officials including assistant superintendent over their negligence that resulted in the tragic incident. An inquiry has also been initiated against the suspended officials. The body of Bisharat was moved to Civil Hospital Karachi for post-mortem. It may be mentioned here that the victim was arrested by anti-corruption department for his involvement in a fraud and he had been serving a jail term since September 2011.
According to police officials, the murderer, Mohammad Ahmed was mentally ill and at the time of incident, his condition was not well. The accused person stabbed Bisharat to death with the help of spoon that was provided by his family members during their last visit.
Meanwhile, the New Town Police have registered a case against Ahmed on behalf of Jail Superintendent Khalid Sheikh. However, the family of the deceased while protesting over his killing alleged that the police officials were involved in his murder, saying that the victim was tortured and then killed.
