MADRID: The number of people in Spain registering as jobless rose by 1.87 percent in January from a month earlier, or by 63,747 people, leaving 3.48 million people out of work, data from the Labour Ministry showed on Friday.
The number of people paying in to the social security system as workers in Spain fell by 0.97 percent month on month or 178,170 people, to 18.28 million people, the ministry said.
In seasonally adjusted terms, registered unemployed fell by 24,161 people in January from a month earlier.
The number of people registered as out of work in the service sector rose by 72,468 people, in agriculture by 2,417 and in industry by 775 while it fell in construction by 5,154.
