Second diabetes nurse education programme held at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) has been concluded. More than 50 nurses from various hospitals of Lahore participated training course were given certificates during a function wherein Professor Mahmood Ali Malik, ex-Principal King Edward Medical College University was the chief guest. Professor Ghayyas-un-Nabi Tayyab, Sugar Specialist Dr Imran Hassan Khan, Principal LGH Nursing School Ishrat Ishaque and other doctors were present on this occasion.
Addressing the participants, Professor Mahmood Ali Malik said that about 10 percent of Pakistanis are suffering from diabetes and if a rigorous awareness campaign about diabetes is not launched, this figure may touch 20 percent by the 2025. He said that habit of physical exercise, balance food and walk could be effective preventive measures against this disease. He also said that nursing staff and paramedics must also be well aware about the treatment procedures of diabetes. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is trying his level best to fight out disease including dengue and he must be well supported by the media, Ulema, civil society and general masses. Professor Mahmood Ali Malik appreciated the LGH administration for launching website about dengue and termed it an effective step against the menace.
