Former president, Malir Bar Association (MBA), Salahuddin Jafferi was gunned down along with his son in the jurisdiction of Malir City police station on Saturday. According to police, around 9am, the deceased Salahuddin Jafferi, 64, son of Allah Noor Jafferi and his son Ali Raza Jafferi, 35, were targeted by armed riders while on way to work in a rickshaw near Malir Memon Goth.
Resultantly, both received bullet wounds and were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Police said Salahuddin died on the spot while his son Ali Raza succumbed to his injures at the hospital.
Police said eye-witness account revealed that the shooters seemed to be professional killers as they were lurking the victims from home and killed them within half a minute and managed to flee in leaps and bounds. DSP Rao Iqbal said the culprits used 9mm pistol in the killings.
Following the incident, scores of lawyers rushed to the hospital and staged protest demonstration. The lawyers demanded of the authorities to take the responsible persons to task and boycotted all judicial proceedings at Malir and Karachi Bars. Meanwhile, MBA President Ashraf Sammo, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Home Minister Manzoor Wasan, Shia leaders and scholars condemned the incident.
The MBA president demanded of the government to arrest the culprits and announced to unveil future line of action on Monday. Deceased Salahuddin was the founder president of MBA and had been associated with it as president from 1993 to 1999 while his son was enrolled in Malir Bar a few years ago. No case was registered till filing of this report.
In another incident, two persons were killed while four others injured in an armed skirmish in the limits of Al-Faleh police station. According to police and rescue sources, the incident took place at Siddique Goth located in Rafaiye Aam Society where the inhabitants of the Goth got engaged in an armed scuffle with the activists of banned Peoples' Amn Committee (PAC) over reserved land for a school.
SHO Asif Munawar said tension prevailed in the area for days when the activists of PAC started sitting at the school with the aim to encroach the same. Reacting on it, the inhabitants of the area expressed resentment and tried to convince the activists of banned PAC to evacuate the land but to no avail. Resultantly, an armed skirmish was triggered between the inhabitants of the Goth and the activists of banned PAC, leaving two persons killed and four others injured. Asif Munawar said the deceased, who have been identified as Latif Baloch, 55 son of Haibat Khan and Nabeel alias Zehrila son of Nazeer Baloch, were the workers of banned PAC. The injured Riyaz-ul-Haq, son of Shams-ul-Haq, 24, Shakoor, 25 son of Mehrab, Lal Muhammad, 24 son of Muslim Ali and Shezad, 25 son of Ghulam Ali were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment. No case was registered till filing of this report.
