Lyari remained in grip of tension for the fourth consecutive day, as the supporters of banned People's Amn Committee (PAC) turned violent during their protest against the ongoing search operation in the area and engaged in scuffle with law enforcers for hours.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the supporters of PAC staged protest demonstration on fourth consecutive day against the targeted operation and booking of PAC leaders in the murder case of Katchi Rabita Committee (KRC) leader, Abdul Rasheed Katchi. All commercial and social activities came to a halt as the miscreants, who are said to be the supporters of PAC, took to streets and engaged in armed scuffle with law enforcers. These miscreants hurled over two dozens petrol bombs on the law enforcers. However, no casualty or injury was reported.
The entire Lyari echoed with intense gunfire on Friday. The 15-hours long protest was ended on Friday evening when the heavy contingent of Rangers entered in the streets of Lyari. The angry crowd of protesters hurled stones on the police and their vehicles. They also set tires on fire and resorted to indiscriminate aerial firing to prevent the law enforcers to enter Lyari.
However, the leader of banned PAC Zafar Baloch accused the concerned authorities of launching search operations in Lyari jus to appease their coalition partners. Meanwhile, MNA Nabeel Gabol accused Zafar Baloch of deteriorating peace of Lyari, saying that the government has not launched any operation against the inhabitants of Lyari but conducting targeted raids to nab the culprits involved in heinous crimes.
