Thousands of activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and member of civil society on Thursday observed the countrywide protests against the increase in power tariff, PTI president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said. People had given positive response to the call of Tehreek-i-Insaf as they had come out on roads against the hike in power tariff and levy of Fuel Adjustment Charge (FAC), he added.
Briefing the mediamen, Hashmi said that people came out on roads at a short notice because they were hard pressed by their miseries at the hands of the rulers. He also criticised Sharif brothers and their so-called opposition, which left the people at the mercy of corrupt rulers.
The PTI president said that National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved 21 per cent increase in power tariff on March 20, just a month after it increased electricity rates by 39 per cent. The increase came after Nepra approved four petitions filed by the state-owned Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), a subsidiary of the state-owned National Transmission and Dispatch Company.
