The government can save billions of rupees if it provides financial support to power sector to overcome energy shortage in the country, Acting President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Younus Muhammad Bashir said. Commenting on electricity crisis, he suggested that finances saved from subsidy to power sector should be allocated for health, education, and other development projects.
Director Pak Iran Business Council and member managing committee of FPCCI, Khuram Tariq Saeed emphasised the need for allowing investors of India and Pakistan to invest in each other's country. He said if it is not possible, Indian investors should be encouraged to set up power units on the border to export power to Pakistan. He was of the view that IP gas pipeline should be completed on priority basis to overcome gas and energy crisis.
He pointed out that Iran was exporting 35MW electricity to Pakistan, which has now been increased to 75MW. He said that no heed was paid to Iranian offer of providing 100MW electricity to Gwadar. About Iran's offer to provide 1000MW electricity to Pakistan, he said that government should come forward and accept this offer.
