The Australian and New Zealand dollars held near multi-month highs against the yen on Friday and found a tentative footing on the greenback, which came under a bit of profit-taking pressure. The New Zealand dollar hit 68.63 yen, its highest in seven months, before edging back to 63.53. Traders said a sustained break would target 68.88, the August 1 peak.
The Aussie hovered around a 10-month peak at 87.78 yen. It rose as high as 88.01, before running into heavy resistance again. It has tried three times this month to pass the big figure and a sustained break there would target the May high of 88.75. The Aussie was at $1.0531, steady from late New York levels. It skidded as far as $1.0422 this week, its lowest since January 20 and was down a modest 0.4 percent on the week. The New Zealand dollar rose 0.1 percent on the day to $0.8206, having earlier hit a high of $0.8231.
