The Supreme Court of Pakistan bench here on Tuesday directed secretary Schools Punjab to probe into the matter of appointments of 78 Elementary School Teachers (ESTs) made against merit in 1993 in district Kasur. The petitioner Moeen-ud-Din contended that the department had advertised 78 posts of ESTs in 1993 and his name was mentioned at the 66th number of the final merit list as he had passed written examination as well as interview.
However, the department officials of Kasur district recruited their favourites whose name were not mentioned in the list while 13 others below his merit were also recruited on political basis. Secretary Schools Punjab Muhammad Aslam Kamboh appeared and admitted before the court that some appointments were made against the matter and he had already ordered to probe the appointments of those 28 teachers who were recruited out of merit. He undertook that a fair inquiry about the illegal recruitments would be completed with in 30 days. He also informed the bench that petitioner could not be adjusted even if the department removed the illegal appointees as his name stood at 66th number in the merit list.
