A girls' degree college in Chitral, which was brunt into ashes by saboteurs over a year ago, is still waiting for the assistance pledged by Chief Minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the institute.
The Chitral College of Education, Chitral, was burnt into ashes by unknown saboteurs and terrorists on the night of December 28, 2010. The college building including offices, classrooms, science laboratories, library and records have been burnt in the incident. During the visit to Chitral on August 17, 2011, Chief Minister, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa had pledged financial assistance for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the college.
In a meeting with the college students, he had assured them of the provincial government's help and assistance for rehabilitation. On the occasion, he had directed the District Co-ordination Officer Chitral to send him the damage assessment report, which was complied with.
But, despite the passage of more than eight months, the pledge could not be materialised. The students, teachers and notables of the area have appealed to the provincial government and the Chief Minister to materialise the announcement and extend help for rehabilitation of the college, which is engaged in delivery of most important social service like education to women in the far-flung and backward areas of the province.
It is worth mentioning here that Chitral College of Education has the distinction of being first ever private sector Degree College for girls. The college's performance has been outstanding, as its students have bagged the first three positions in B.Ed. and M.Ed. examinations held under the aegis of Malakand University during last three consecutive sessions.
