On the second day of the three-day Doodh Mela and Dairy Expo 2012 milk competition 70 progressive farmers' animals participated in the event. The maximum milk potential was recorded among Cows including pure Sahiwal breed 28 liters twice a day, exotic animals Ferrisian 39 liters, Jersi and Cross Breed 28 to 30 liters thrice a day. Whereas, the elite Nili Ravi Buffalo milk production was recorded 28 liters and Beetal Goat 4 liters during 24 hours was recorded.
The prize money of the high milk potential of the animal would be Rs 150,000 to 30,000, respectively. A tent of 15x13 ft was allotted to one milking of animal. The event was organised by faculty of animal production and technology (FAPT) University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in collaboration with Punjab Livestock Dairy Development department. As many as 30 stalls had been set up including animal feed, silage making, veterinary medicine, microbiology products, bio-security and dairy machines.
Co-ordinator Dairy Expo Dr Jalees Ahmad Bhatti said that the dairy expo and milk competition was to encourage the farmers' community to have good and high productive animals and to provide a platform how to increase the milk yield by adopting modern methods and techniques in this regard. Bhatti also said that UVAS is organising three-day Doodh Mela and Dairy Expo 2012 to promote modern and model dairy farming that has the potential to enhance milk production substantially.
