The second biggest water reservoir Mangla dam on river Jhelum will reach its dead level of 1040 ft above the sea level on Saturday (today), Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) engineers told Business Recorder on Friday. They said that the water level in the dam has been falling by 10 ft daily since the past week with the discharge of 35,000 cusecs water downstream the reservoir against the river's inflow of 10,000 cusecs water.
Tarbela dam on River Indus has already emptied and now only run of the river water is being discharged for hydel power generation and crops irrigation purposes. According to Wapda report of March 9th, rivers flow and reservoirs level, only 52,000 cusecs water is flowing in the four live rivers at their rim station, Indus at Tarbela 19,700 cusecs, river Kabul at Nowshera 8,400 cusecs, river Jhelum at Mangla 8,000 cusecs and Chenab at Marala 16,500 cusecs. All the run of the river water is being discharged into the canal irrigation network across the country. Water inflow at Chashma barrage on river Indus was 31,300, Taunsa 35,500 cusecs, Guddu 35,400 cusecs, Sukkur 28,500 cusecs and Kotri barrage 3,190 cusecs.
