'SNIC' to be issued soon: security to Osama's widows government's responsibility, says Malik

In response to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) threat, Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Friday said that protection to Osama's widows is government's responsibility and nobody can terrify him. The TTP had warned of attacks on government installations and police and military officials if the widows of Osama bin Laden were not released from Pakistan's custody.
Threats of TTP would not deter me, he said while talking to reporters after visiting the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) headquarters. He said the government had an obligation to protect and respect the family of Osama bin Laden. He said if the government could not conduct trial of the widows of Osama, there would be an accusation that Pakistan was supporting them. Osama's three widows had been charged with illegally entering and living in Pakistan. They (the wives) were presented before the court. After that, they are on judicial remand, he said.
The minister said cases have been registered against the widows and not against Osama's children. To a question, he said the government has asked Sindh chief minister to control extortion and he will visit Karachi in next few days. Malik said 'Smart National Identity Card' with innovative and enhanced features would be introduced soon to facilitate the population and to end chances of forgery. Nadra has designed the new card as it would gradually replace Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), being issued currently, he added.
