Executive District Officer Health Lahore Dr Inamul Haq has said that five suspected cases of dengue were noticed during the first week of March, but after laboratory tests, no positive dengue patient was confirmed. He disclosed this while addressing a media briefing about dengue here on Thursday. District Officer Health Dr Muhammad Saeed Akhtar was also present on this occasion.
He said due to increase temperature, dengue larva has been found in Lahore and the spray teams of Punjab Health Department and concerned departments have become active for its elimination. He further said 30 per cent population of Lahore was affected due to dengue last year and dengue virus test in such persons is found positive for a long time. "Therefore, NS-I test of the patients suffering from fever is conducted for confirmation of dengue as per guidelines of dengue experts advisory group. So far no confirmed dengue patient was reported," he added.
He said checking of breeding of dengue mosquito is essential for its elimination and a vigorous campaign should be launched for elimination of eggs of larva for which full participation of community is very essential. He asked the people to fully cover the pots of water and not let the water accumulate in and around the houses. He appealed to the media to provide guidance about preventive measures and create awareness among the people regarding checking of dengue.
