LHC issues notice to Sharif, Maryam and Sanaullah over contempt petition

The Lahore High Court issued on Wednesday notices to deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah over contempt of court petition filed against them.
According to local media reports, in the petition the petitioner asserted that Sharif, Maryam and Sanaullah made anti-judiciary speeches and incited hatred towards the judiciary during their recent rally at Jaranwala. The petitioner appealed the court to take action against Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority for allowing channels to broadcast speeches that targeted the judiciary.

The court then adjourned the hearing to February 14, directing both parties to submit their responses. Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court on Monday had accepted a similar petition against Sharif and Maryam and is set to start the hearing next week.
Sharif and daughter have been criticizing the judiciary since Sharif was disqualified as the prime minister last year in July. They have accused the judiciary of being biased in their judgement against Nawaz and his family.
