Following the fire that mysteriously broke out in a shanty town namely Umer Jokhio Goth and turned some 85 huts into ashes, the inhabitants of the Goth staged protest demonstration against the land mafia. According to eye-witnesses, the fire has completely gutted some 85 huts in Saachal police station remits. They said the inhabitants of the shanty town after the incident came on streets and staged protest demonstration against the land mafia.
They said the protesters, who shouted slogans against the land mafia and blocked all major arteries, held the fire as preplanned incident. The land grabbers are threatening the inhabitants of the Goth for dire consequences if they did not evacuate the land, they said. SHO Azhar Ali Iqbal said that they have not found anything, which proved the involvement of land mafia behind the incident and added that the investigation is underway, if anyone found guilty in this business, stern punitive measures would be taken against him.
Meanwhile, chief fire-fighter Ehtesham said that at around 1:30pm, unknown caller informed the department that fire engulfed the shanty town located in Rizwan Society at University road. Reacting on the information, four fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the spot to extinguish the fire.
He said that some 85 huts were completely gutted in the fire before they reached to the spot hence they called more tenders for backup. Later eight more fire tenders were sent to the place. Chief fire-fighter further said the fire was brought in control within an hour. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained while he is of the view that it broke out because of dry weather.
