MUET, Siemens hold seminar on energy

Faculty of Electrical, Electronics, & Computer Engineering Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) in collaboration with Siemens Pakistan organised technical seminar on Strategic Network Planning for Pakistan's growing energy needs in the country.
The seminar was attended by a large number of engineers from power sector, faculty members, researchers and students. In his introductory address professor Dr M.A Uqaili, Pro Vice Chancellor MUET said that the demand for electricity in Pakistan is increasing rapidly despite its short supply. He said that MUET has always been striving for high quality research by encouraging the faculty utilizing indigenous resources of the country and learning from fellow researchers all over the world.
Aqeel Ahmed Vice president Smart Grid division Siemens Pakistan highlighted the importance of smart grid solutions in Pakistan. Irfan Ahmed head of renewable energy systems Siemens Pakistan gave presentation on Wind Energy's Integration into existing electrical network of Pakistan. He discussed Important issues and presented various solutions.
Dr Michael Schwan - Head of Network Consultancy Siemens PTI (Power Technologies International), Germany who had flown in especially for this seminar discussed Network Planning Strategies for Distribution Companies with special focus on Loss Calculations, Minimisation, and Reliability study of electrical networks.
Asadullah Shaikh, Head of Engineering at Energy Automation Siemens Pakistan gave a presentation on Smart Metering their Features and Benefits. Bachal Laghari, Chief Engineer Hesco gave an interesting presentation on how Hesco has added additional 150 MW of electricity generated through small units in Sindh to their network. In his vote of thanks Professor BS Chowdhry, Dean Faculty of Electrical, Electronics, & Computer Engineering MUET thanked Dr Michael Schwan and his team at Siemens Pakistan for organising such an informative technical seminar at MUET.
