Livestock and Dairy farmers have demanded for further extension of milk and meat development project, saying that livestock and dairy products made substantial growth after launching the project in two districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing at a joint news conference at Peshawar Press Club (PPC), President Livestock Farms Association, and a member of Pakistan Youth Organisation (PYO), Haji Hayat Khan said that the Milk and Dairy Development programme was launched as a pilot project in 2010 with completion period of three year. He added that the project will be completed by end June this year.
The association vice president Waqar Ahmad, PYO provincial Coordinator, Mohammad Asif Awan, were presented along with other office bearers, he explained that the project basic aim was to improve production of milk and meat products, enhance the capacity building of farmers, stopping the exports of livestock and dairy products, vaccination of cattle, and provision of other facilities for development of livestock farming sector.
He said the substantial improvement made in production of livestock and dairy products in district Peshawar and D.I. Khan, where the pilot project initiated. He added that the project had played integral role for development of livestock and dairy products.
He informed that improve the socio economic status of livestock and dairy farmers was another important aspect the project. He maintained that milk chiller had established to keep milk save from expiry at the both districts. He further said that seeds and veterinary medicines had also provided to farmers under the programme.
Haji Hayat said that training session held for building the capacity of female farmers under the project, adding a poultry unit was also established with 100 chickens. After getting desirable objective and results, he demanded of the government for continuation of the project with its extension to other districts of the province.
