ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) will conduct raids from Tuesday on CNG stations across the country to check the use of substandard CNG cylinders in vans and buses.

Muhammad Iqbal, Deputy Executive Director, Public Relations, Ogra, informed Business Recorder here on Monday that after the recent CNG cylinder blasts in public service vehicles in Vihari, Punjab and Mitari, Sindh, where dozens of passengers lost their lives, the Authority has recommended to the government, through a letter, to completely ban CNG cylinder use in buses and vans.

He said that the Ogra Chairman would lead the campaign, adding that the Authority has constituted special mobile teams consisting of Ogra, Petroleum Ministry and Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) officials. He said that in public service vans and buses substandard CNG cylinders are being used. So, keeping in view the public safety, the Authority has recommended complete ban on use of CNG cylinder in vehicles.

He said that the Authority would monitor CNG stations across the country and in this regard All Pakistan CNG Association has been informed. The Authority would monitor gas pressure on CNG stations, CNG cylinder fitting in vehicles and all safety measures.
