Fruit, vegetable export rise

Fruits and vegetable export during the first five months of current financial year has registered an increase of 13.94 percent and 28.47 percent respectively. According to the data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the fruit export from the country during the period from July-November 2010-11 witnessed an increase of 13.94 percent as about 163,132 metric tonnes fruits of different varieties worth $88.59 million were exported.
Meanwhile, the export of vegetables increased by 28.47 percent as about 95,452 metric tonnes vegetables worth $28.55 million was exported during the first five months period. The export of leguminous vegetables (pulses) showed 100 percent increase during the period from July-November 2010-11 as about 1,718 metric tonnes of pulses worth $1.89 million have been exported, the report said.
