4444ssssKARACHI: Direct export of Pakistani goods to Romania will not only fetch foreign exchange for Pakistan but also reduce import cost to Rumanian businessmen thus expand bilateral trade volume.

This was stated by the Rumanian Ambassador in Pakistan, Emilian Ion while speaking at the reception hosted by Pak-Romania Business Council (PRBC) on the occasion of 93rd national day of Romania here Sunday evening.

He said good quality Pakistani goods were being shipped to Romania via Germany, Turkey and other country. This increases the cost of these goods in Romania, he added.

KCCI President Mian Abrar Ahmed, Chairman PRBC Shamim Arif Firpo Aqil Karim Dhedi and other leading businessmen were also present on the occasion.

He said PRBC can play its role in the promotion of direct trade between the businessmen of two countries and stop third country trade mechanism.

Ion said that there is a big demand for Pakistani pashmina fabrics, readymade garments, towels, textile products, rice, dairy products and fruits in Romania.

He pointed out that Rumanian businessmen were willing to invest in Pakistan under joint ventures in energy, textile and cement machinery, engineering sectors.

He said that a high level trade delegation of Rumanian businessmen will visit Pakistan in February 2012 to explore trade and investment opportunities.

Rumanian Envoy said the bilateral trade volume was restricted to only $ 20 million despite vast opportunities and this can be doubled through concerted efforts.

He said Romania is a member of European Union (EU) and can serve as a gateway for Pakistani products to large European market. He asked Pakistani businessmen to use this access for increasing their exports to EU.

Speaking on the occasion, chairman PRBC Shamim Firpo pointed out that a delegation of the council during recent visit to Romania had learnt that vast scope existed for Pakistani products in Rumanian market.

He said PRBC has created a special cell for the promotion of direct exports of Pakistani goods to Romania. We will soon provide information to Pakistani exporters about the products which are needed in RomaniaHe pointed out that PRBC had signed an agreement with two leading chambers of Romania.
