ASTORE: Secretary General Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PML(N), Astore chapter, Muhammad Saleem khan Wednesday said the government was committed to take tangible measures for the socio-economic development of the womenfolk.

Talking to APP, he said the government have initiated a number of projects in education, health and social sectors for welfare of the underprivileged areas of the country including Gilgit-Baltistan, adding that utmost efforts were made to protect women's rights and ensure justice for them.

Among other projects, he said Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has served as social safety net which was benefitting womenfolk by disbursing cash grants to empower them economically.

He reiterated that he would soon hold a meeting with chief minister and governor to resolve pending issues of women in the district and initiate new welfare-oriented projects for them.

He said the meeting would also take up issues regarding tourism sector which was hugely contributing to the exchequer.
