A meeting of the Parliamentary committee on National Security has been convened on Thursday to outline its recommendations pertaining to Pakistan's new strategy in the aftermath of November 26 Nato attack in Mohmand Agency and also to discuss the 'memogate' affair.
According to sources, the panel to meet with Senator Raza Rabbani in the chair here at the parliament is expected to finalise its proposals for new terms of engagement with the United States. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had asked the panel at its previous session on December 2 to finalise recommendations on new terms of engagement with the US, the decision that had been taken by the government in reaction to Nato attacks. After finalisation, the committee would send the recommendations to the Prime Minister, upon which joint session of the parliament would be convened.
The committee had agreed on the joint session of the parliament, but sources said that the matter would again be discussed in the meeting after ailment of President Asif Ali Zardari, who is currently in Dubai to undergo medical treatment and was planned to address the joint sitting of the two houses.
On December 2, the parliamentary panel while fully endorsing all decisions of federal cabinet taken in aftermath of November 26 Nato attacks. The committee would also discuss the 'memogate' controversy. The panel which was originally summoned to discuss the 'memogate' controversy did not take up the matter in its previous meeting due to the situation that arose following the Nato attacks.
