Despite passage of more than 22 months, Sindh Tourism department could not conduct written test/interviews for 54 vacancies of lower staff, it is learnt on Wednesday. After the establishment of Gorakh Hills Development Authority (GHDA), the tourism department had advertised 54 vacancies of lower staff in January 2010. More than 22 months have passed but the department is yet to hold written tests/interviews of the eligible candidates, sources said.
Sources said that 3 vacancies of Assistant Computer Operator (BPS 12), 2 Accounts Clerks (BPS 11), 2 Stenographers (BPS 11), 6 Junior Clerks (BPS 7), 5 drivers (BPS 5), 12 Attendants/peons (BPS 12), one Electrician (BPS 01), one Plumber (BPS 01), 14 Watchmen (BPS 02) and 7 vacancies of Pump Operator (BPS 02) had been advertised in January 2010, through various newspapers.
The GHDA officials received more than 3,000 applications for the advertised jobs. The vacancies had been announced during the period of former tourism minister Shazia Marri. Later, the portfolio of tourism was given to Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ayaz Soomro has also enjoyed the portfolio for many months but the matter of test/interviews was not resolved.
Currently, PML-Q's Mohammad Ali Malkani is the Tourism Minister but nothing has been done in this regard, sources said. They said that the officials of tourism department and GHDA had tried to form a committee for the purpose of test/interviews of applicants but any decision is yet to be taken in this regard. An official of GHDA told Business Recorder that during the tenure of Shazia Marri, many employees were appointed on daily wages and there are chances that these staff might be regularised on the advertised posts.
