A Pakistan Navy ship named after Khalid Bin Walid is arriving next week at the Malaysian port of Langkawi to represent Pakistan in the five-day Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) exercise 2011.
While aiming to demonstrate amity, Pakistan Navy ships regularly participate in Exercise LIMA at Langkawi, said a message received here on Sunday from Malaysia. This year, PNS SAIF is representing Pakistan Navy in LIMA-11 at Langkawi from December 5-11, 2011.
PNS SAIF is the third ship of SWORD class F22 Frigates built in Shanghai China, which was inducted into the PN Fleet in November last year.
In a statement, High Commissioner for Pakistan in Malaysia Masood Khalid welcomed a full-fledged participation of Pakistan Navy in the 11th edition of LIMA 2011, saying both Pakistan and Malaysia enjoy good brotherly relations and both countries have close military and government ties.
He said the Navies of Pakistan and Malaysia have had a longstanding relationship and training cum goodwill visits are a regular feature to further strengthen the ties and mutual co-operation between the brotherly countries.
Such interactions also develop an understanding between the naval partners and help in establishing a more secure and conducive maritime environment, which is essential for global peace, prosperity and harmony, he added. It may be added that the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition is the premier destination for aerospace and maritime manufacturers targeting the Asia Pacific growth markets.
For nearly 22 years, LIMA has been serving exhibitor needs by assembling key decision-makers from the defence, enforcement and civil sectors. In 2009, over 210 delegations from 40 countries gathered in Langkawi Island.
LIMA's carefully crafted programmes gave exhibitors the opportunity to access this invaluable market and help grow their business. Since its inception in 1991, LIMA has grown in strength. From 150 companies in 1991, it attracted more than 450 companies from 25 countries with almost RM five billion worth of business generated in the last exhibition held in 2009, and has now become one of the world's premier aerospace exhibitions.
